A Colombian in Austria

Yenny Reyes in Vogelsangschule Saalfelden

Most of my time I am supporting the teacher of Primary 1, I help the children in whatever they need, I am also supporting the children in "Werkstätten" in clay, wood, sewing, art, crafts, candle making, etc. At the beginning I accompanied the children to their gymnastics classes, but because of covid we could no longer attend, I also participate with them in the excursions, walking, or biking, or by bus, always being aware that they do not get hurt or helping them in what they need.

I have given classes about geology, about Colombia, about art, about Spanish, I try to participate in the school newspaper with some specific and interesting topics, mostly teaching Spanish. I have also helped in administrative processes, such as printing school material, cutting, laminating and packaging.

I made a mural at school, because I really love art and painting!!! a big tree with lots of flowers! I always try to help the children as much as I can.

Being away from my family was not so hard because I had the privilege of traveling to Colombia for two weeks at Christmas and New Year, being with them and in my country comforted me and recharged me with a lot of strength to continue giving everything of me.

Something I have learned from life is that it puts everything in your way, first I went from Colombia to the Netherlands as an au pair, which was also a very nice and enriching process, in which I learned and met many things, then fate brought me to Austria and since I arrived something in my heart told me that I was going to stay here to live the rest of my life and so things have happened. I fell in love with this country, and I'm even going to stay here! I am going to live in the city of Salzburg, because I found a job in Freilassing, Germany, in a Kindergarten, my current volunteering and the new experience to come has taught me a lot, especially independence, willingness to work hard and get ahead, improving the language, giving all of myself in the things I do. I have grown personally, professionally, spiritually. Austria is like the country of my destiny, which has been waiting for me for a long time. Besides that I found by fate the love of my life, with whom we are going to formalize things soon :)

I have learned a lot about Montessori education, my German has improved a lot, I can now understand the children and communicate with them, which was a bit difficult for me at the beginning.

My story is like a movie! And destiny and God have brought me from the other side of the world for a reason, and in return for that I try to thank life and God, giving all of me, making an effort, and leaving footprints in everyone's hearts, so that when they hear my name "Yenny" they remember a warm, loving woman, always ready to help, smiling, brave, funny, who likes to give more than she receives, although nothing compares to the love I received from so many children during this wonderful year.

I have already promised to visit them when I can! And to attend their next "Abschullfest" and I hope to be able to speak to them much more in their language! It is something I wish with all my heart! I leave very happy and grateful for this excellent experience. I carry you all in my heart.

A VOGELSANG FOREVER!
